Wyndcott is proud to participate in efforts to reduce waiting times for procedures such as extractions. Prevously these would all be done at hospital, even though a hospital setting may not be needed. Dental practices with suitably experienced and qualified staff are now part of the IMOS scheme, and enable the NHS to send less complicated cases to those practices. This allows hospitals to focus on the more difficult tasks, reducing waiting times for hospital appointments.
It all begins when you see your usual dentist, and they find that you need to have a tooth extracted. They may decide that the extraction is more complex than usual, and write a referral for you. The referral is sent via a computerised evaluation system, which determines whether a hospital or IMOS member will be used, and sends it on as needed.
Your dentist will have selected a nearby practice for you. There are IMOS practices throughout Kent, and you can ask to go to any of them. Different practices may offer appointments on different days of the week, including weekends, or may have facilities such as disabled access or free parking, and this may be part of the decision when choosing a practice.
Once the practice receives and processes your referral, they contact you to make an appointment. Recent improvements have cut down the time from being referred to making an appointment even further, so it may now be possible to be seen within 7 days. Typically the whole process takes a few weeks – a huge improvement on past waiting times.
