We give clear and simple instructions which are explained to you that prevent most problems. We give you a copy of these instructions to take with you after treatment as well.
Although problems are not common, the most likely problems are that the area develops an infection, or that the area begins to bleed.
Bleeding can occur if the clot protecting the extraction site is disturbed. We provide a gauze pad as part of the take-home pack. Normally it is enough to bite down on this and remain calm for 15-30 minutes. If that does not work then you simply return to the practice if this occurs on the same day.
If this happens one or more days after treatment, please call the practice first.
If the instructions we give are not followed carefully, or if you are simply unlucky, infection can occur. Infection is normally treated with antibiotics. Please call the practice and we will see you as soon as possible.
If you are especially prone to infection, you may be prescribed antibiotics to start before the procedure, of you may be given a prescription on the day. Please do take the medication and do not stop until you have completed it.
If the medication is not working, or if you have a reaction of some kind, call the practice.
I can’t find the leaflet you gave me – what do I do now ?
